
Microsoft will be offering a free ad based browser version of its popular Office software, placing it in direct competition with Google Docs on that score.Microsoft announced today in this year's Worldwide Partner Conference that Microsoft Office 2010 will have 3 versions of the online service. There will be the ad supported unpaid service, available to anyone. It will also be available on-premises for all Office volume licensing customers. And for those who feel like paying for it, Microsoft will oblige you by hosting your work on Microsoft Online Services.Other improvements include co-authoring in Word, Powerpoint and OneNote, improvements in image and video editing in PowerPoint, and more efficient Email and calendaring services in Outlook. The ribbon from Word 2007 will also be given to the other applications too this time around.
